Difficulty/Easy
Lighten up today with this refreshing and easy-to-digest green smoothie by Heather McClees. This recipe is very low glycemic and packs in a solid dose of trace minerals, chlorophyll, and gentle plant fibers to help cleanse the digestive tract. Lemon and ginger help soothe digestion while also giving a little love to the immune system. This would make a great light-on-the-tummy pre or post-yoga smoothie with just the right amount of protein to give your muscles a nice boost.
Ingredients
- 1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk (homemade for raw version)
1/4 lemon with peel ( great for digestion, and full of antioxidants)
1/4 inch knob of fresh ginger
1 head romaine lettuce, shredded, core removed
1 cup fresh spinach
1 cup ice
1 tbsp. chia seeds
1 scoop vanilla vegan protein
1/4 inch real vanilla bean or 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
1 full drop liquid NuNaturals vanilla, alcohol-free stevia
Optional: 1 scoop your favorite greens superfood powder ( I use Amazing Grass Cacao Infusion or Philsophie Green Dream, and 1 tsp. Nutrex spirulina everyday
Instructions
1. Enter all the ingredients in the order listed above to your blender, and blend from low to high. Or, if you have a Blendtec, like I do, simply hit the smoothie button for a thinner blend, or the ice cream button for a thick, ice cream like blend. If you have a standard blender, you may need to blend longer or add more liquid to get it going. If you have a Vitamix, I suggest using the tamper to get it going better as well. This isn’t needed in theBlendtec since it handles everything perfectly all on it’s own. (Read more on the benefits of a Blendtec here).
2. Pour into a glass, and enjoy!
