WATER: What To Do When You Are Tired of Drinking Water

Pure drinking waterThe majority of us don’t drink enough water; and we all know water can get a little boring when you are drinking it all the time. Not to mention, it is hard at times to pass up all the sweet and unhealthy drink options that are available and especially plentiful in the summer time. Instead of reaching for the soda pop and other sweet drinks try using these ideas to literally spice up your water and make it more interesting to drink!

Infused Waters

This is definitely “trendy” right now, which also means that there are a lot of ideas out there for different fruit and herb infused concoctions! Basically, an infused water is water that has fresh herbs, fruits or even veggies in it to flavor and freshen it up. Common ideas are cucumber and fresh mint infused water, or strawberry lemon. There are also fun and unique ones to try like rosemary and grapefruit, or watermelon and mint, or orange and blueberry.

You should try making our personal favorite blend which is strawberry, lemon and fresh basil.

Try experimenting with and coming up with your own creative new ideas using unique items like grapefruit or other herbs that you wouldn’t normally put into water like fresh rosemary and thyme.

Post your ideas for different fruit infusions and let us know which ones you’ve tried that you really loved!

Fresh Iced Herb Teas

skin-healthy-teaWe are not talking Black Caffeinated Iced Teas, those aren’t the best for your body. We are talking fresh herbal iced teas; you can try using different herbal tea bags; or you can step out of the box and experiment using different herbs you have in your garden to make some yummy teas.

For example, try Honey Lavender Lemon Tea using lavender flowers, lemon and honey.

Or go to your local health food store and pick up some dried rosehip and hibiscus and make your own floral concoction. We’d love to hear your ideas and the unique recipes you come up with!

What I like to do is heat up some filtered water and add fresh peppermint from my garden, or lemon balm or whatever fresh herb I am experimenting with and let the herbs steep in the hot water for a few minutes. If I am adding sweetener (usually I try to not use a sweetener) Ill add it in with the water while it is hot to dissolve it in. Once everything is mixed together I will strain it if it needs to be strained and put it in the fridge to cool. It is very easy to do and doesn’t take up much time and makes water interesting to drink.

Homemade Lemonade

Lemonade-Diet-LemonsIts tried and true, an old fashioned classic that still works to this day. I dont know what it is about fresh lemon water in the summer, but there is something so alkalizing and refreshing about squeezing fresh lemon juice into water. Lemonade can take seconds to make; heat up a small amount of water and add your sweetener to dissolve it; try to use agave or honey instead of sugar. Once I heat up a small amount of water and dissolve the sweetener I’ll add the fresh lemon juice and ice and then fill the rest of the glass or pitcher with water and its an easy fresh lemonade in minutes.

We could all probably use an extra glass of water; and as a rawfoodist it is incredibly important that you drink enough water and hydrate your system! We encourage you to take on these fresh creative ideas to drink more water everyday! Challenge yourself to drink ONE more glass of water each day, or to carry around a reusable water bottle if you don’t already!
