5 Secrets To A Delicious Superfood Breakfast by Ksenia Avdulova

We always hear parents, doctors and scientists talk about the importance of not skipping your breakfast. But WHAT we put in our bodies first thing in the morning is just as important. Here are my five tips to help you maximize the benefits you get from the first meal of the day.

About a year ago, I made a switch to plant-based, wholesome superfood breakfasts, and I noticed drastic changes in the way I feel. Even though I had always interested in eating healthy and yoga, making superfood breakfasts a daily routine took me to a place where my body is fueled to its fullest potential, and my energy levels are the highest they’ve ever been. I feel more focused and strong, and my digestion works like clock (and everyone who has come over for a breakfast, reports the same results).

1.    Detoxify

Before eating, help your body and digestive system detoxify and wake up by having a magical cocktail of juice of ½ lemon, ½ teaspoon turmeric, and a dash of cayenne pepper, all mixed in a glass of warm water. Add honey if you like.

2.    Prioritize

Even though my breakfasts sometimes look more like art than food, I swear that they don’t take more than 10-15 minutes to prepare. Instead of grabbing something on the go or having a breakfast without sitting down (I’ve been there!), find 15 minutes in the morning to prepare a wholesome meal that will leave you feeling energized and happy. It pays off.

3.    Be prepared

A lot of times, my fridge is painfully empty, but I still manage to create a satisfying superfood breakfast. The key is to always have ziplocks with goodies that you can throw in a smoothie – kale, spinach, berries, bananas. Filling glass jars with nuts or oats and soaking them in water overnight also helps you be prepared and time in the AM. As for superfoods – you’ll save money by buying them in bulk, and your pantry will always have something you can add to make your breakfast a nutrition powerhouse.

4.    Find what works for you

On cold days, I crave a warm, nourishing oatmeal with blueberries, ginger, lemon zest and bee pollen. On warmer days, I feel like a cold overnight oats or a raspberry and kale smoothie bowl with goji berries. The key is to find the recipes that are the most satisfying for you, and make them your own by adding your favorite ingredients. 5.    Cook and eat with love

I can’t stress this enough. Even if you eat the healthiest meal in the world while looking at your computer screen, checking your phone, and thinking about the upcoming work meeting, the benefits are reduced almost to dust. Think about something joyful while preparing the meal, and then take the time to sit down, be grateful, and indulge. I know, it’s not easy to be doing only ONE thing at a time, so take it easy on yourself.

Those photographs just pop off the page. You are right they do look like works of art – amazing. I love my smoothies for breakfast and tend to just blend and go, but I’m definitely going to take some time at the weekend to come up with something like this. The colours alone are fantastic.
